Insulin Resistance
Diagnosis

Also various skin & hair conditions such as acne, psoriasis, excessive hair loss and spot baldness have been linked to insulin resistance. One of the clear manifestations of insulin resistance is a skin condition known as acanthosis nigricans. This condition creates dark patches usually on the back of the neck, in the groin, and the armpits.
Insulin resistance has also been associated with menstrual irregularities and reproductive issues such as difficulties to conceive or recurrent pregnancy loss.
Sometimes symptoms related to diabetes, such as sudden hypoglycemia (low blood glucose) can be observed. These hypoglycemic events include blood sugar suddenly dropping below normal level. People with insulin resistance sometimes describe suffering from this type of event because of irregular meal schedule, having too long breaks between meals or eating wrong type of foods that cause blood sugar to spike and then later crash.
Symptoms of hypoglycemia can include:
Feeling shaky
Being nervous or anxious
Sweating, chills and clamminess
Irritability or impatience
Confusion
Fast heartbeat
Feeling lightheaded or dizzy
Hunger
Nausea
Color draining from the skin (pallor)
Feeling sleepy
Feeling weak or having no energy
Blurred/impaired vision
Tingling or numbness in the lips, tongue, or cheeks
Headaches
Coordination problems, clumsiness
Being overweight, especially around the waist is a significant risk factor for developing insulin resistance, but insulin resistance can also manifest itself in people who are normal weight.
